Founded
in Silicon Valley in 1987, the plaintiff's trial law firm of
O'Reilly & Danko represents clients in all areas of personal
injury and civil litigation. The firm's primary practice areas
include: aviation and motor vehicle accidents and unusual personal
injury and product liability cases. From the beginning, our goal
has been to maintain a small practice by accepting a limited
number of cases. This focus permits the most efficient use of
time, utilizes the depth of our legal experience and maximizes
verdict potential for our clients. Because we like unusual and
technically challenging cases, our expert witnesses are among
the most well-respected in their fields and our skill level is
far above most trial firms.
Our trial experience is one of
our strengths
Before founding the firm, Terry O’Reilly practiced in San Francisco
for 17 years with the late Bruce Walkup, then one of the nation’s
best trial lawyers. In 1999, he was elected to the Inner Circle of Advocates,
a society limited to the leading 100 trial lawyers in the United States.
In 2004, 2005, and 2006, Terry, Mike Danko, and Gary Simms were all named
Super Lawyers by San Francisco Magazine. Terry was named one of
the top 100 lawyers, in any field, for those three years. The San Francisco
Chronicle has listed Terry as one of the top ten trial lawyers in Northern
California.
While the firm has tried cases in virtually every area of civil litigation,
it is primarily known for its aviation practice. O’Reilly & Danko
enjoys an international reputation in aviation litigation, representing
clients in the Alaska Airlines Flight 261, Egypt Air Flight 990, and American
Airlines Flight 587 disasters. We have litigated cases in air disasters
in Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, Egypt and France. Notably, the firm
represented the entire crew of the only Concorde ever to crash and successfully
settled the case without litigation, despite unique and complex legal issues.
Our aviation experience encompasses numerous smaller fixed-wing aircraft
and helicopter crashes, as well. In 1989, the firm obtained the largest
single personal injury settlement ever in an aviation case ($32 million; Paboojian
v. Piper). |

A
reputation for achieving results
In addition to our tort injury practice, the firm also represents plaintiffs
in high-risk business litigation involving economic torts, libel and unusual
torts. Before joining the firm in 1995, Mike Danko practiced with an internationally
known Wall Street-based law firm, where he specialized in complex, high-risk
business litigation.
Since its inception, the firm has won a record-setting series of
multi-million dollar jury verdicts, including a $16.6
million decision in a case involving the death of a child, by far the
largest such verdict on the West Coast. This result exemplifies the firm’s
success in unusual tort cases, as the case had been turned down by a number
of firms claiming to be specialists. In recognition of this and other verdicts
against a Taiwanese manufacturer of dangerous candies, the Consumer Attorneys
of California named Terry O'Reilly Trial Lawyer of the Year in 2003. The
firm’s success in obtaining $116,000,000 in verdicts prompted
the FDA to issue a nation-wide recall of candies that had caused the choking
deaths of dozens of young children around the world. |
