Military Airplane Accidents

Protecting the Rights of Military Airplane Accident Victims

Military airplane accidents typically involve the same kinds of underlying causes that civilian aircraft accidents do. Pilot error, fatigue, air traffic controller mistakes, unsafe aircraft design, defective components, poor maintenance, weather — one or all of these factors may play a role. Despite these similarities, military plane and helicopter accident lawsuits are often governed by very different laws.

In real terms, what this means is that many cases are tried in federal court. Relative to most state courts, federal courts are generally more reluctant to allow these types of cases to proceed.

If you hope to overcome those odds, you will need a lawyer who has had actual experience and success with cases very similar to your own. You will need a lawyer whose vocabulary does not include the word "quit."

O'Reilly Collins' founding attorney, Terry O'Reilly, has represented families in dozens of air disasters beginning with the Turkish Airlines Flight 981 crash in 1974. In the years and decades since, Mr. O'Reilly has also served on the plaintiffs' committees for such major disasters as TWA Flight 800, Egypt Air Flight 990, and Alaska Airlines Flight 261.
